RELIEVERS: Pass the Maalox

This week, we take a rapid fire look at some bullpens using some key indicators from April, starting in the National League with the Chicago Cubs and ice-cold closer Carlos Marmol (RHP, CHC):

CHC Sv BS IP xERA Clean/App LI
==========     ===  === ===  ====  =========  ====
Dolis           1    0   13  5.59     6/10    0.84
Marmol          1    2    8  7.43     6/10    0.98
K.Wood (DL)     0    1    2  4.31     2/4     0.95

Marmol has a hideous 7.43 xERA in his eight April innings and has converted only one save. Not what the Cubs or Marmol owners had in mind. But Kerry Wood (RHP, CHC) is already on the DL and Rafael Dolis (RHP, CHC) has not really been much better, with a 5.59 xERA and the same six clean in ten...

This is the annual sleepers column, but let's be honest: There are no sleepers. There are relievers with great skills who are cheaper than they should be ... and that's what you want anyway.
