RELIEVERS: Observations April 7 and 8, 2022

This week the column observes Opening Day (Thursday) and also the Friday games and offers up some tidbits on a handful of bullpens.

The first is San Diego where Robert Suarez (RHP, SD) took a L and Craig Stammen (RHP, SD) took a blown save in their opener. Bob Melvin named the recent acquisition Taylor Rogers (LHP, SD) as the team's closer earlier in the day, but Rogers was not available to pitch in the opener, so Melvin went with Suarez. Here is the ugly line:

SD April 7 IP H ER BB K HR
================= === == == == == ==
T.Hill (L)        0.2  2  0  0  0  0
P.Johnson         1.1  0  0  1  3  0
R.Suarez          0.0  0  3  2  0  0 (L)
C.Stammen         0.0  1  1  0  0  1 (BS)

It was a tough outing on Thursday.  On Friday,

Almost!
