This column is about the relievers who are not full-time closers but are projected to have massive skill sets that can serve in any leverage role, including closer, if asked. Typically, several of these relievers earn a profit in standard leagues. In saves + holds or in sim leagues, these are incredibly valuable relievers regardless of whether they get saves or not. They will all pitch in leverage.
These relievers share these characteristics: 1) not full time closer (yet), 2) low xERA, 3) low WHIP, and 4) high K%-BB%. They are in three groupings: 1) 10-14 saves (with the potential for a lot more); 2) Plan B right-handers who could fall into saves in a hurry if the designated closer gets hurt or traded or fails in the role, and lefties...
