New York Mets

The catching landscape in New York has changed considerably since the start of the season. Top prospect Francisco Álvarez is surging a bit as he locks down the starting job after Tomás Nido hit the IL with dry eye syndrome earlier this week, and Omar Narváez was transferred to the 60 Day IL on May 4.

Álvarez got off to a slow start slashing .194/.216/.278 with a wRC+ of 38 across his first 37 plate appearances in April, but since May 1 has put up a .320/.393/.680 slashline with a wRC+ of 192 across 28 plate appearances. He is also walking 10.7% of the time in May compared to 2.3% of the time to start the season, while striking out almost half as much as he did to start the season (35.1% to 17.9% respectively).
