With apologies to Garrett Cooper, Jesús Aguilar, and Josh Bell, all of whom enjoyed brief stints as the team’s mostly-regular first baseman, Miami hasn’t had a multi-year fixture at the position since the halcyon days of Marlins legend Justin Bour (2014-2018). There have been more contenders for the position than for the throne of Westeros. Going back to the start of the franchise, two first basemen have truly stood out, Derrek Lee and Mr. Marlin himself, Jeff Conine, who was there when the team was established in 1993. Now, manager Clayton McCullough is once again searching for a leader for the hardest spot to rule on the Miami infield, with one pretender tracing his bloodline back to the founding of the realm....
