The Reds are doing their best to play spoiler in the last month of the baseball season. They took two of three from the Cubs at Wrigley Field and two of three from the Padres at Great American Ballpark. Next, they'll welcome the Brewers to Cincinnati for a three-game series over the weekend. They are also experimenting with a new power hitter at leadoff, at least against righties.
Elly De La Cruz had been leading off for the Reds through much of a hot July and a not quite so hot August. He slashed .303/.405/.556 with a wRC+ of 162 out of the leadoff spot in 116 July plate appearances and .241/.328/.375 with a wRC+ of 95 in August. He's still hitting second for the Reds, but manager Terry Francona has shaken up his lineup...
