At the time of Jackson Holliday’s demotion to AAA on April 26, it appeared that Baltimore would revert its infield back to its arrangement before Holliday’s promotion, with Ramón Urías (primarily starting against right-handed pitchers at third base) and Jorge Mateo (primarily starting against left-handed pitchers at second base) sharing one lineup spot while Jordan Westburg split time between second base and third base.

This pattern held true for the first week following Holliday’s demotion, but since then, Urias’ continued struggles (.179/.220/.268) have opened the door for Mateo to carve out regular playing time as Baltimore’s second baseman. Through Sunday, Mateo has started five consecutive games and...
