On Sunday, Boston welcomed back two players from injury into its starting lineup, as Roman Anthony returned, hitting leadoff as the designated hitter, and Trevor Story also returned, starting at shortstop and hitting eighth. Boston, whose gotten strong performances from replacement options, ended up demoting Mickey Gasper and Anthony Seigler to Triple-A to make room for Anthony and Story.
Gasper was demoted despite a torrid stretch (.423/.595/1.115 in 37 PA) after being called up for designated hitter duties after Masataka Yoshida. Anthony’s return meant that the team would use its designated hitter spot for one of its outfielders most days, and thus Gasper returns to Triple-A and be on standby in Triple-A in case...
