W. Smith injury shifts LA catching plans

NEWS: The Dodgers placed C Will Smith on the 10-day IL with a bruised right hand and recalled C Chuckie Robinson from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

BHQ SPIN: Smith missed five games after initially injuring his hand when it was hit by a foul ball on September 3. He returned for two games prior to the Dodgers deciding he wasn’t recovering as expected and should be placed on the IL. Smith will be eligible to return on September 20, just in time for the final week of the regular season. We expect the Dodgers will be cautious with Smith prior to the playoffs, particularly if they have a lead over the Padres for the NL West title.
