Royals | Jason Vargas needs Tommy John surgery
Kansas City Royals SP Jason Vargas (elbow) requires Tommy John surgery and will not be able to rehab the torn left ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow, according to manager Ned Yost.  Source: The Star-Ledger - Andy McCullough

Kris Medlen could slide in if Ventura falters, but after BHQ noted his issues with giving up the long ball in the July 19 PT Today, he served up a homer July 20 that gave Ventura his sixth ER for the game.
