NEWS: New York placed Tomás Nido on the IL due to impaired vision and recalled Michael Pérez.

BHQ SPIN: Nido’s absence means rookie Francisco Álvarez will get the bulk of the starts behind the plate. Nido is expected back when the 10-day minimum IL time is met, but it’s looking like Álvarez has staked a claim to the majority of playing time at catcher. Álvarez started the season going 1-for-15, but over his last 15 starts, he’s 14-for-46 with three homers. We’ve bumped Álvarez’ s estimated playing time going forward to a total of 65%.
