Bay to DL with fractured rib

After leaving the April 23 game following a collision with the outfield wall, Jason Bay (OF, NYM) has landed on the DL with a non-displaced rib fracture. Jordany Valdespin (2B, NYM), who has been playing outfield in the minors, and was profiled here yesterday, will likely share time in left field with Scott Hairston (OF, NYM) and Mike Baxter (OF, NYM) until Andres Torres (OF, NYM) returns.

Torres collected three hits and two steals in his first rehab game, but the Mets have yet to announce how long they expect his rehab assignment to last.  Barring another setback, he should be back pretty soon, which is likely to relegate the aforementioned players to lesser roles.
