ROTISSERIE: Santana Plan anchors for 2020—Part I

The Santana Plan is a roster construction strategy that advocates buying one elite starting pitcher that satisfies statistical screens for excellence over his past two seasons.

Note that the Santana Plan anchors are not necessarily the best starting pitchers for 2020, but instead are the elite starters who are most likely to retain their 2019 skills in 2020.

For the 2020 season, our Santana Plan anchors are Jacob deGrom (RHP, NYM), Max Scherzer (RHP, WAS), and Trevor Bauer (RHP, CIN) in the National League. Our AL anchors are Gerrit Cole (RHP, NYY), Justin Verlander (RHP, HOU), Chris Sale (LHP, BOS), and Zack Greinke (RHP, HOU). We review each of these pitchers in the concluding portion of today’s article.
