ROTISSERIE: Santana Plan anchors for 2014

Five years ago, when BaseballHQ reformulated its Santana Plan research, the convention wisdom was to not spend big on starting pitchers. “Too risky,” some replied. “Better bargains elsewhere,” said others. Yet our research results—that some starting pitchers are much less volatile than the rest of the pitching population—was so robust that we’ve advocated the Santana Plan as a viable draft or auction strategy ever since.
Now, we feel vindicated. While buying an elite starting pitcher is not universally recommended, we have read multiple other fantasy baseball experts who have arrived independently at the same conclusion, that the best starting pitchers are less risky than is true for other pitchers.
