So the MLB trade deadline is (nearly) upon us. Rumors are flying around: this guy's moving, that guy's staying put, etc. Two things we know: there will be a lot of player movement in the days prior to the deadline (there's been a handful of moves already), and there will be some surprises (both players coming and going).

BaseballHQ.com will have plenty of coverage of player movement, rumors, role changes, et al. This column won't repeat that coverage. What we will address here is how to approach the trade deadline tactically and strategically.
