Murky pen situations as spring training begins

There are teams with dire pens like the Colorado Rockies and the Chicago White Sox. Those are not covered in this column. What is covered are pens where there is not a reliever with a projection of 20 saves or more. The lone exception is the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are not dire like the Rockies and White Sox, but have so many relievers expected to get saves that no one is projected for 20. The Dodgers, Rockies, and White Sox will be covered later on.

There are five teams who do fit the category, and we start with the Boston Red Sox. Here are the projections for the top relievers in their pen:

This column covers relievers who might cost you a lot chasing saves but then fizzle out because of skills or injury risk.

This is the annual sleepers column, but let's be honest: There are no sleepers. There are relievers with great skills who are cheaper than they should be ... and that's what you want anyway.
