GM's OFFICE: March dreams; September realities

Ahhh, March. The month to dream, right? We spend some, if not all, of the offseason staring at the numbers (usually with help of a resource or two), projecting what each player might have in store for the season at hand. In addition, we attempt to prepare for our drafts or auctions, projecting what our competitors might do, and preparing avenues for player acquisition. We attempt to stay grounded and realistic in both realms, but it’s often an uphill fight amid the punches of things like recency bias and small sample sizes. 

Come September, reality has hit. The five-plus months of the season have played out, and our reactions to player under- and over-performance, the inevitable injury monster, and changes in MLB that have rippled to...
