This is certainly not turning out to be the year the Giants had scripted for themselves. Not only are they 17 games out of the wildcard race as of June 28, but despite being pegged as a team with a solid pitching foundation, the combined staff ERA (4.90) ranks 26th in the MLB—with a 5.02 staff ERA since Madison Bumgarner (LHP, SF) hit the DL (shoulder) on April 21.

Matt Moore (LHP, SF) has been brutal, with a 6.04 ERA (5.11 xERA) in 89 innings pitched, ranking him last in the NL among qualified starters. Matt Cain (RHP, SF) hasn’t won a start since May 15, giving up 32 ER (6.91 ERA) in the 41.7 innings over that timeframe.
