It was a rough start to the season for the Rockies, who saw their Opening Day first baseman Daniel Murphy (2B, COL) hit the shelf with an avulsion fracture in his left index finger, sidelining him through at least the end of April.

The immediate reaction in some circles was that this would open the door for Garrett Hampson (SS, COL), who had more or less lost out on the 2B competition to Ryan McMahon (1B, COL). That logic made sense, as McMahon received the majority of his starts (21) at 1B last season, while Hampson is arguably a better defender at 2B. However, there is some speculation that the team may prefer to keep McMahon at second so that he can find/keep his groove defensively. Along those lines, the same...
