PT TOMORROW: NL East—Will B.J. Upton lose playing time to Bonifacio?

A few weeks ago we talked about the team’s need to upgrade the bench and add a veteran left-handed reliever. To that end, the Braves acquired Emilio Bonifácio (INF/OF, ATL) and James Russell (LHP, ATL) from the Cubs. They also, as we previously suggested, promoted Phil Gosselin (2B/3B/LF, ATL) to take the spot on the bench that was once held by Dan Uggla (2B, FA).

Russell moves into the spot that used to belong to Luis Avilán (LHP, ATL) and more recently Chasen Shreve (LHP, ATL). Since his demotion to Triple-A Gwinnett, Avilan has not yet been able to get back on track (6.1 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 8 BB, 2 K).

It will be interesting to see if Bonifacio cuts into the playing time of B.J. Upton (OF, ATL). Manager Fredi Gonzalez has...
