Manager Terry Collins recently told reporters that the leadoff spot is a question mark heading into spring training. Juan Lagares (OF, NYM) and Curtis Granderson (OF, NYM) are the two top candidates.

Ideally, Collins would like for Lagares to step up and claim the gig with a strong spring, but the team is mindful of not putting too much on the 25-year-old’s plate too soon. He has just 43 career PA as a leadoff man (.310/.326/.405 with 0 BB and 9 K) in two major league seasons. Lagares showed some improvement from his rookie season, but still has work to do.
