PT TOMORROW: NL East—Might WAS try Werth in the leadoff spot?

Washington Nationals

Updating a problem we’ve discussed previously, the Nationals continue to get very little offensive production from the leadoff spot (.210/.254/.325 in 434 AB). Ben Revere (OF, WAS) owns a putrid .216 batting average and .263 OBP in 241 AB. A .270 xBA shows us how much an unfortunate 23% h% has impacted performance, but the bottom line is that the results haven’t been there. Manager Dusty Baker has elected to bat Trea Turner (2B, WAS) leadoff in four of the last eight games to mixed reviews. Until Revere heats up, this timeshare atop the batting order could persist.

Another possible option could be Jayson Werth (OF, WAS). Despite an unsightly .240 batting average, the 37-year-old owns a .340 OBP in 320 AB this season...

Almost!
