PT TOMORROW: NL East—Keen on Dean?

Miami Marlins

The Marlins continue to gradually fold in younger players to their mix. Their starting outfield now consists of Brian Anderson (3B/OF, MIA), Lewis Brinson (OF, MIA), and Harold Ramírez (OF, MIA). Anderson is the “veteran” and most successful of the bunch to date; Brinson is just getting his feet wet again after a recent call-up, and rookie Ramirez has been about 15% below league average in 279 AB. Could the Marlins’ missing ingredient be AAA-New Orleans outfielder Austin Dean (OF, MIA)?

Dean has been called up twice this season, each time falling flat. His cumulative 2019 MLB stat line reads: .209/.216/.337, 6 R, 2 HR, 10 RBI, 1% bb%, 74% ct%, 78 PX, -7 BPV. With numbers like those, it’s no wonder the brass has kept Dean...
