As Tomás Nido (C, NYM) nears a return after being sidelined since August 25, the Mets will have to make some decisions about their catching corps very soon, with the results quite possibly upending the status quo.
Wilson Ramos (C, NYM) began the season as the clear number one catcher, on the strength of his 2019 performance (.288/.351/.416, 52 R, 14 HR, 73 RBI) and career offensive numbers (126 HR, .754 OPS). And while he has appeared in 33 games this year—by far more than any other C on the Mets—his offensive performance has been disappointing: .226/.291/.340, 7 R, 3 HR, 9 RBI in 106 AB.
