PT TOMORROW: NL East—Conforto's deep slump could result in demotion

After soaring out of the gates with a .365 batting average, 4 HR and 18 RBI in 74 AB during the month of April, Michael Conforto (OF, NYM) has a horrid .153 batting average to go with 6 HR in his last 131 AB. The big difference has been a drastic decline in plate discipline (April: 9 BB/15 K, May-June: 10 BB/44 K). He was recently diagnosed with sprained cartilage in his left wrist, and that surely hasn’t helped matters, but these struggles pre-date that injury. Things have gotten so bad that the team may want to either stash him on the disabled list to let the wrist heal or else maybe send him to Triple-A for a brief spell to let him work through some things in a lower pressure environment.
