The Pirates remain the most positive surprise of the division, and perhaps in all of baseball. Depending on the source, their chances of making the playoffs are between 20 and 40 percent, far higher than anyone would have expected 66 games into the season. With that said, the focus in Pittsburgh should be on improving its big league roster. That isn’t likely to come through a blockbuster trade, but the team has internal options to upgrade areas of weakness.
