Kris Bryant's (3B, CHC) shoulder inflammation remains a mystery and an ongoing concern. Two separate MRIs have revealed no structural damage, but now his second DL stint, Bryant has had just 40 AB in the 2H and at last report was continuing his strengthening exercises, with no timetable as to when he may next swing a bat again. While an .854 OPS and 11 HR through 304 AB are respectable numbers, Bryant's production has dropped off markedly from his 2017 campaign (.926 OPS, 29 HR over 549 AB)—suggesting that both his return to the lineup and to something near peak form remain in question.

But David Bote (3B, CHC) is doing his best to minimize Bryant's absence from the lineup. Bote has started four of the last five games...
