PT TOMORROW: NL Central - The Unusual Usage of Gallegos

St. Louis Cardinals 

Giovanny Gallegos (RHP, STL) hasn’t done anything to lose the closer job in St. Louis with his early-season performance (3.52 xERA, 23 K-BB%), but that hasn’t stopped the club from mixing and matching bullpen usage in save opportunities. Ryan Helsley (RHP, STL) has picked up three of the team’s last seven saves, and each of the most recent pair (through Sunday). Much of that has to do with the team seemingly protecting Gallegos, which could continue to cost him opportunity as the season wears on. 

Gallegos has pitched back-to-back days only twice this season. The first occasion came on April 20, when threw 11 pitches on April 19. The second time came on May 20, after he threw only two pitches on the 19th. Gallegos...
