Trevor Rosenthal (RHP, STL) had solidified his grasp on the closer role in St. Louis, earning Saves in seven consecutive appearances before he left an August 16 appearance against the Red Sox with a torn UCL. This opens up the closer role in St. Louis for both the rest of 2017 and next season. Rosenthal is under team control through the end of 2018, but the Cardinals won’t offer him arbitration this offseason since he’ll be spending the next year rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.
