On the cusp of heading out on a rehabilitation assignment, Tyler Glasnow (RHP, TAM) signed a two-year contract extension. Does that make Glasnow, working his way back from Tommy John surgery, more likely to pitch meaningful innings for the Rays in 2002?

One can see the argument. If Glasnow was going to return to the mound to help with this year’s pennant push, he might see some benefit in the added security a contract extension would provide.

Moreover, all the news coming out of Tampa has been cautiously optimistic about the status of Glasnow’s recovery. At last check, his fastball was hitting 97 mph in live batting practice, and Glasnow himself was offering up positive assessments about his spin rate.
