For all the talk of  newly-acquired Jason Grilli (RHP, LAA) moving immediately to the very back of the pen, his performance to date and initial LAA work this past weekend suggest that roles will remain fluid—at least entering Monday. Having recently coughed up the PIT closer job, Grilli hadn’t exactly been lights-out in 2014, posting 4.67/4.87 ERA/xERA, 4.9 Ctl, and 1.8 hr/9 through 20 IP before joining the Angels. And while a Howie Kendrick error was critical in LAA’s Sunday loss to KC, Grilli lit the fire with a HBP and eventually gave up the 9th inning game-winning single.

In short, the 37-year-old Grilli doesn’t have the same control and isn’t missing bats as frequently as he during a brilliant...
