A potentially productive lineup has taken a hit from Kyle Seager's (3B, SEA) hand surgery, with June now projected as his earliest return date. This and a strained elbow sidelining Mallex Smith (OF, SEA) early have created ripple effects and early opportunities for what previously looked like a crowded bench. Smith could return quickly and likely end (at least next time) the Mariners' career of Ichiro Suzuki, who was on the active roster this week in Japan. But the two months during Seager's hiatus could get interesting.
