Remarkably, the division's deepest club has also been the healthiest and most stable at the MLB level—and in fact, as of May 8 had made no 25-man roster changes since April 18, when Tony Sipp returned from the DL and James Hoyt shuttled back to Fresno. This isn't to say that changes won't eventually come, be they demotions or well-timed DL stints. Somewhat surprisingly, the Astros have yet to take hold of the divisional race, with both LAA and SEA hanging tough—and there is room for improvement in several areas. But other than now part-time closer Ken Giles's well-documented hiccups, the few ongoing problems that exist aren't with a pitching staff that owns an MLB-leading 2.66 ERA entering May 8.
