The bullpen has taken a preseason hit with Ken Giles (RHP, SEA) finger tendon problem projecting him out until at least sometime in May. But SEA's ninth inning was always going to be a committee effort to begin 2022, and this remains the best reliever corps in the division. The early closer opportunities look to be divided primarily by Paul Sewald (RHP, SEA), Drew Steckenrider (RHP, SEA) and Diego Castillo (RHP, SEA), who totaled 41 saves between them in 2021. The two dominant arms belong to Sewald—17.2 SwK, 40% K% in 65 IP last year—and Castillo (15.6 SwK, 32% K% over 58 IP), giving them both good shots at remaining saves-and-hold options for the entirety of 2022.
