PT TOMORROW: AL West—Beltre re-up ripples

Last week's two-year, $36M extension of Adrián Béltre should have little to do with Joey Gallo's (3B, TEX) future in Arlington. While obviously a trade isn't out of the realm of possibility for any organization's prospects—and the contending Rangers need help in their rotation and behind the plate—the clear near-term opportunity for Gallo is at 1B with Beltre still in tow. Mitch Moreland (1B, TEX) is a 2017 free-agent-to-be who finally posted a long-anticipated BA+production effort (.278 BA, 23 HR, 85 RBI) in 2015. But he's 30-year-old injury risk with a career sub-.700 OPS vL that stamps him as a platoon player—and not a likely multi-year extension candidate for the Rangers.
