As speculated in this space last week, Kevin Gausman (RHP, BAL) lost the game of musical chairs in the Orioles rotation upon the return of Wei-Yin Chen (LHP, BAL) and Miguel González (RHP, BAL). That Gausman is the proverbial “next man up” was reinforced when he was held out of a minor league start June 26 in case rain washed out Baltimore’s June 27 game, forcing a double header the following day, which in fact occurred.

At this point, Gausman’s next opportunity may well come at the expense of Chris Tillman (RHP, BAL), who was given an extra day of rest after his fifth PQS-0 of the season June 21.
