Given the number of left-handed batters on the Rays with drastic platoon splits, this space has noted previously the semi-regular opportunities available to the team’s right-handed batters. While Logan Forsythe (3B, TAM) and Brandon Guyer (OF, TAM) have struggled, Sean Rodríguez (2B, TAM) has surged to the fore.

Two months ago, Rodriguez merited a mention in Baseball HQ founder Ron Shandler’s annual Draft Radar: Batters column, under the “Intriguing ‘What-Ifs?’” heading. Rodriguez was included with other players on the “favorable side of age 30” who might be able to recapture past glory and, in Rodriguez’s case, that could mean a 25-HR, .260 season, according to Shandler.
