Yes, Kevin Gausman (RHP, BAL) was demoted to start the season. But if his first start for AAA-Norfolk is any indication, he won’t be down for long. Gausman struck out six while walking two and yielding three hits over 4 2/3 scoreless innings.
Where Gausman’s opportunity might come from remains to be seen, but at least a couple of members of Baltimore’s rotation got off to rockier starts to their season.
Perhaps the most tenuous is Miguel González (RHP, BAL), who dealt with back spasms and a line drive off the leg during the spring. Gonzalez gave up nine hits, two of them home runs, and 7 ER over 3 1/3 IP in Detroit April 4. As noted in the Baseball Forecaster, Gonzalez’s xERA has never bought his sub-4.00 real ERA,...
