PT TOMORROW: AL East—Beckham bending toward fulfilling promise?

Readers of the 2017 Baseball Forecaster may have been a bit puzzled by the bullish 15-HR, 15-SB upside projection for Tim Beckham (SS, TAM), given that Beckham’s major league career to this point consists of 446 less-than-impressive plate appearances, featuring occasional power (14 HR) but little else (.238 BA, .288 OBP).

But the former first-round pick, who was BaseballHQ.com’s No. 15 prospect in 2009, has spent the spring thus far validating that show of support, going 6-for-18 with a long home run and earning praise from manager Kevin Cash.

The Rays appear to have a super-utility role in mind for Beckham, giving him a couple of starts in left field while playing him most often at shortstop, where he may have a short...
