While Chris Sale (LHP, BOS) joked about wanting to take the ball — and pick up a bat — during an interleague series in Atlanta next week, pitching coach Dave Bush offered a more realistic assessment of when the lanky lefty might be back on the mound for the Red Sox: two months — or early to mid-August — assuming all goes well.

Sale had said that he would be open to returning to the team as a reliever, though at the moment, it sounds like the team’s preference would be for Sale to take the ball every fifth day, as long as his reconstructed elbow is up to it.
