Somewhat lost in the excitement over Anthony Volpe (SS, NYY) winning the Yankees’ shortstop job is the fact that another young player, Oswaldo Cabrera (OF, NYY), has also made the Opening Day roster, at least nominally in a super-utility role while Aaron Hicks (OF, NYY) is offered another chance at reclaiming the team’s left field job.

However, this spring, Hicks struck out in 14 of his 38 AB (63% ct%), casting some doubt as to his staying power.

Even if Hicks were to again be banished to the bench as he was last season, there are a few complicating factors to projecting Cabrera for big plate appearance totals.
