By pitching a dominant seventh inning May 9 in which he struck out two of three batters and his fastball reached 101.4 mph, Félix Bautista (RHP, BAL) became an early candidate to be the featured Oriole in this weekly column.

At that point, the message was going to be to bump up Bautista on watch lists of stealthy future save sources.

But then, Jorge López (RHP, BAL) took a bereavement leave. On May 10, Dillon Tate (RHP, BAL) got the first opportunity to step in as Baltimore’s closer. But after he gave up a home run and single and hit a batter to put the go-ahead run on base, Tate got the hook. Bautista two struck out Tyler O’Neil (OF, STL) for the final out.
