PT TOMORROW: AL East — Is Chavis a starter… or a minor leaguer?

Boston Red Sox

Neither José Peraza (2B, BOS) nor Michael Chavis (2B, BOS) has distanced himself from the other thus far this spring, in terms of which player will be the Red Sox primary second baseman.

Though March 5, Peraza is 4-for-18 with a stolen base, while Chavis is 4-for-17, a home run and a somewhat alarming nine strikeouts, coming off a rookie season in which his contact rate did not inspire a lot of confidence.

Chavis may well still make the team as the weak half of Boston’s first base platoon with Mitch Moreland (1B, BOS), if not as the second base starter, though the possibility that Bobby Dalbec (1B/3B, BOS) could be Moreland tag-team partner to start the season cannot be ruled out.

Dalbec is also 4-for-17 with a home run...
