PT TOMORROW: AL Central—Tigers stocking up on shortstops

Now that the Tigers know José Iglesias (SS/3B, DET) will miss most of the season with stress fractures in both shins, they have acquired two shortstops in the past week. Andrew Romine (SS, DET) came from the Angels in exchange for José Álvarez (LHP, LAA). Romine played 24 games at 3B last year and 17 at SS. He played part of four seasons for the Angels and accumulated a .250 BA in 152 AB. He has no power and his career minor league BA of .279 doesn’t suggest much BA upside. Neither does his mid-70s ct%. He did average 20 steals per season the last three years in Triple-A.

The bulk of the playing time at SS will likely go to Alex Gonzalez (SS, DET) who was acquired from Baltimore in a trade for Steve Lombardozzi (2B/OF,...
