Last week’s acquisition of Joakim Soria (RHP, DET) may not be the end of Detroit’s efforts to upgrade their bullpen. Reports suggest that they are still looking for another set-up man. The Tigers would probably trade some Double-A or Single-A prospects if they found a good fit.

Most observers have taken Manager Brad Ausmus at his word that Joe Nathan (RHP, DET) will retain the closer role despite the arrival of Soria. However, the difference in skills between the two so far this year make it probable that Soria will eventually take over as the closer. Soria’s 189 BPV is supported by his 2.67 ERA (2.64 xERA)/0.95 WHIP to go along with an 11.5 Dom/8.6 Cmd. This compares to Nathan’s 97 BPV with a 5.73 ERA (3.78 xERA)/1.49...
