PT TOMORROW: AL Central—Bourn on the DL again: Time to punt?

Michael Bourn (OF, CLE) went on the DL again because of the hamstring that has been bothering him all year. It may be time to accept that Bourn is not going to return to the days of 40+ steals. This year he is on pace for fewer than 20 after stealing only 23 last year. Bourn’s SBO% has been steadily declining since he was at 49% in 2007. He has established career lows each of the last three years (28%, 24%, and 13%). If Bourn is no longer an elite base stealer his overall value is much diminished. His career xBA is only .252 and he has never reached double digits in HR.

The Indians acquired Chris Dickerson (OF, CLE) from the Pirates to take Bourn’s spot in the OF. Dickerson has been playing at Triple-A this year, where...
