Ian Kennedy (RHP, KC; pictured above) looked like he had the closer role all to himself when we checked in on him last month, but after his first two spring appearances (five runs, five hits, two HR), he may have cracked open the door for a competition. 

Former Cardinal closer Trevor Rosenthal (RHP, KC) is in camp on a minor league contract, and he has done his part to insert himself into the equation, with seven strikeouts, no walks and only one hit in three innings. It’s been a struggle for him to regain his form after Tommy John surgery in August 2017, and his 30 combined innings in 2019 across the minors and the majors hinted that perhaps his career was over at age 29.
