NL East: The Braves lose Whit Merrifield after a scary HBP

The Braves enter the second weekend in September in a tie with the Mets for the final Wild Card spot in the National League, with a collection of players in their starting lineup who weren't even on the roster in March. A slew of injuries to their positional stars has had the Braves pivoting all season, and the bad news kept coming after a scary moment earlier this week saw Ozzie Albies' replacement Whit Merrifield hit in the head with a pitch. 

Early reports are that Merrifield avoided a concussion but is still “feeling groggy.” He has yet to return to the Braves lineup. Luke Williams appears to be the short-term replacement for the Braves. Williams is a 28-year old utility man who has struggled this season. He's...
