DIVISIONAL OUTLOOK: NL East—Marlins could get 1B boost

The Marlins have gotten a measly .543 OPS, 2 HR and 9 RBI out of their first basemen so far this year through 44 games, but help could soon arrive.

Logan Morrison (1B/OF, MIA), who underwent right knee surgery in September 2012, began a minor league rehab stint with Single-A Jupiter on May 20. By rule, the rehab stint could last up to 20 days, but the team is hopeful that he could be back by June 1. He’ll take over the role of primary first baseman upon his return.

Casey Kotchman (1B, MIA) and Joseph Mahoney (1B, MIA), both out with hamstring strains, are also expected to begin minor league rehab assignments this week.
