DIVISIONAL OUTLOOK: AL East—Matt Moore hits the skids

The recent skid of Matt Moore (LHP, TAM), who has given up 19 ER over 12 2/3 IP in this last three starts, may have been a surprise to those who had been enjoying Moore’s very good surface stats up to that point, but it should have come as less of a surprise to those who were watching Moore’s BPI—specifically, his rising Ctl. If that wasn’t enough, Baseball HQ starting pitching analyst Stephen Nickrand warned us about Moore’s loss of pitch movement on May 20. A 4.60 xERA says that Moore’s surface stats may fall further yet.

Moore’s rotation spot should not be in jeopardy, however, as Chris Archer (RHP, TAM) remains the leading candidate to be demoted when David Price (LHP, TAM) returns. Archer needed 103 pitches to get...
